Playgrounds, latrines and buskers – life in the backyard
This evening, Copenhagen City Archive will present photos, films and records telling the story of backyard life in the early 1900s.
The backyard interior was the setting for the outdoor life of many Copenhageners. The space had to house everything that could not be squeezed into the overcrowded apartments. Here you could find the smelly latrines and garbage cans, but also laundry, workshops and sleeping children in prams. It was in the backyard children played and fought, experienced buskers and jugglers and where you could both find a rat and the love of your life.
