On Culture Night, experience expeditions through time. Actors from the Copenhagen Film and Theatre School bring the voyages of discovery to life, as well as the people who ventured out into the world and expanded our understanding of it.
You can also join guided tours and hear talks by the museum’s researchers and curators.
NB: Places on the tours are limited. All tours last 30 minutes. Tickets for the tours, guided tours and talks are available from the museum foyer from 18.00.

The Arabian Journey: Six Set Out, One Returned
Join Anne Haslund Hansen as she explores the dramatic history of the expedition. In 1761, six men set out on a scientific expedition to Arabia. Their mission was to explore, document, and gather knowledge about a world they knew very little about. However, the journey was marked by illness, hardship, and conflict—and only one of the six returned.
The Woman Explorer
Join ethnologist Mette Boritz as she explores Henny Harald Hansen’s life and work. Who was the woman behind the expedition, how did she live among the people she studied, and how did she collect and document knowledge about everyday life? Location: The Exhibition Ukendt Land
The Search for Kings and Sunken Palaces
In the 19th century, an explorer made a discovery that would change archaeology forever – at a time when the discipline was still finding its feet, and the pursuit of spectacular discoveries often outweighed careful excavation. Join us as we travel back to Assyria, in present-day Iraq, and explore one of the world’s oldest writing systems.
AFTER STARS AND GPS
Step into the transit hall and meet the travellers – searching for direction, meaning, adventure and a place to belong. From the nomad who follows the landscape to the GPS woman who never gets lost, a live performance unfolds, exploring all the ways in which people travel. The audience is invited on a staged journey through the museum.
CLOSING PARTY
The foyer is transformed into a historical party where expedition travellers from different times and places meet. Look forward to dancing, theatre and small tableaux as the evening’s discoveries come to life once again.
