For Kulturnatten 2026, the Danish Film Institute invites you on a journey beneath the surface of the sea.
Through film, sound, play, and sensory experiences, we explore the ocean as a source of life, a mystery, and a cinematic universe.
You can get close to sharks below the surface with VR, go on a treasure hunt among sailors or settle into the cinema for a rewatch of the classic film Bennys Badekar. In Himmelbio, we will screen short films about life on and in the sea for the whole family.
On Filmtaget, filmmaker and music connoisseur Carl Marott explores the sonic side of film history with a DJ set inspired by the water and sounds from below. In Biblioteket, you can test your film knowledge when Filmnørdens Hjørne hosts a live film quiz.

Put on a VR headset and step into a shark cage beneath the surface of the sea. Get close to the sharks in an intense virtual experience where the ocean depths suddenly feel frighteningly real. The experience is facilitated by KHORA, who will guide you safely through your underwater journey. The VR experience is recommended for ages 8 and up.
ONLY IN DANISH Join a journey among films, sailors and sea monsters as the Danish Film Institute invites children and the young at heart on a treasure hunt. Find the messages in bottles, follow the shoals of herring and see if you can uncover the pirates’ hidden treasure on the seabed. Prizes for all brave treasure hunters!
